Collecting you from your accommodation, we take a scenic drive over the Outeniqua Pass (800m above sea level) into the Klein Karoo. Your guide will relay interesting information pertaining to the history, geology, cultures, wildlife, and flora and fauna of the area.
Arriving at the Cango Caves, a 20-million-year-old limestone cave system extending 5km deep - the largest cave system in Africa and a World Heritage Site - you are guided for an hour to view and learn the secrets of this natural wonder.
Lunch is enjoyed at Buffelsdrift Game Lodge, where you can savour a variety of local cuisine, including ostrich salad and kudu steak. Vegetarian options are also available. Situated on a watering hole with resident hippopotamus.
Then you will have a choice of either a 90-minute guided tour of Cango Wildlife Ranch, a rehabilitation and educational centre housing over 90 different species. Here, you may choose one animal encounter: pet the cheetahs, cage dive with crocodiles (summer only), get up close and personal with lemurs, or visit an ostrich farm on a half-hour tour of these peculiar animals, where you can pet, feed, and take pictures with them.
Heading back to your accommodation in the golden hour, we stop at a viewpoint on the Outeniqua pass for photographs as the mountains come alive with colour, bringing to an end a wonderful day full of contrasting variety.
